'The Two Faces of the EU'

The EU is an organisation that aspires to the highest standards of equality. Indeed you can find many instances of these aspiration throughout its rules and regulations. For instance 'The EU's commitment to equal opportunities and non-discrimination can be found in all its policies, including those which aim to foster regional development'. However, it would appear that these aspirations are not applicable when dealing with countries that would like to leave this exclusive club!
