The Client

The Cobham Aviation Services Division (which incorporates FR Aviation Ltd) specialises in warfare training, aerial surveillance, flight trials and specialist aircraft modification. The Company also operates the worlds largest privately owned fleet of Falcon 20 jets and provides long term support to the UK's fleet of Nimrod and Sentry Aircraft.

The Challenge

Cobham Aviation Services required a Christmas card design that not only illustrated their capabilities and would stand out from traditional cards but also one that could be themed from year to year.

The Solution

I worked with Cobham Aviation Services to develop a theme which included the key aircraft operated and maintained by the Company over the previous year. These aircraft were to be set in either an airborne or hangar scenario. It was also decided to employ two images, the first for the front of the card and the second on the inside. This format allowed for the inclusion of all the required aircraft within the design. To make the card lighthearted it was decided to use a cartoon style of illustration throughout. With this in mind I developed a series of aircraft caricatures that were used within the design. The final Christmas card design was the result of several initial sketches that were modified and amalgamated to align with the needs of Cobham Aviation Services.

The Result

Cobham Aviation Services were delighted with the card and commissioned christmas cards from me for a total of 16 years. During this time I delivered an entire 'turnkey' solution, from initial consultation and image design through graphical layout to liaising with printers and delivering cards and envelopes in the required quantities.
